Privacy and data controls
This policy explains how FlareLens handles information when you use the app or contact support.
Effective: July 22, 2026 ยท Last updated: July 22, 2026
This policy applies to the FlareLens mobile application and related FlareLens support services provided through the PuraLens website and support email. You can use the app without creating an account.
You may choose to enter and save:
FlareLens does not require an account name, password or profile email for normal app use.
Camera access is requested only after you choose barcode scanning or ingredient-label capture and continue from the explanation screen. Barcode scanning reads the code in the camera view. Ingredient-label capture creates an image in the app’s temporary local cache and sends a resized JPEG copy to OCR.space over HTTPS so text can be extracted.
FlareLens does not intentionally add an account identifier to the OCR request. The OCR provider receives the image and normal request information, which may include an IP address. OCR.space states that uploaded documents are deleted after processing and API access IP addresses are retained for one month. Its practices can change, so review the OCR.space Privacy Policy.
The app does not deliberately retain the captured image as a permanent record. A local temporary file may remain until the operating system or app storage is cleared. Extracted ingredient text is retained locally only when you choose to save the review to your journal.
For a barcode lookup, FlareLens sends the barcode number and standard network request information to Open Facts services, including Open Food Facts and, when needed, Open Beauty Facts, Open Pet Food Facts or Open Products Facts. These services return available public product and ingredient information. FlareLens does not send your journal history or health profile with a barcode lookup.
Product databases are maintained by third parties and may be incomplete, outdated or inaccurate. Always check the current product label and manufacturer information.
Journal records, profile settings, tracking preferences, watchlist items, Flare Detective feedback, lifestyle experiments, clinician notes, lab values, Health Vault text records and onboarding status are stored locally on your device. Doctor summaries and data exports are generated on the device from those records. An export stays on screen until you use the device share controls or leave the flow.
Product lookup results and unsaved review information are used in the active review session. They are not added to the journal unless you choose to save them.
FlareLens does not provide an app account, cloud journal or automatic cloud sync. Journal and health records are not routinely uploaded to a FlareLens server. The network services described above receive a barcode for product lookup or a label image for OCR when you request those features. Requests use HTTPS. Provider-controlled infrastructure, logs and retention remain subject to each provider’s policies.
Data also leaves the app when you deliberately share a doctor summary or export through the device share sheet, or when you send a support message. The destination you choose then controls its own storage and handling.
No active third-party analytics or crash-reporting service was found in the reviewed FlareLens production code. If this changes, this policy will be updated.
Information is used to:
FlareLens does not sell personal health information and does not use it for cross-app advertising or tracking. Information is shared with service providers only when needed for a feature you request, such as OCR or product lookup, when you choose a destination through device sharing controls, when you contact support, or when required by law.
You can:
There is no account-deletion process because FlareLens does not require an app account.
Camera permission is requested only when you choose barcode or ingredient-label scanning. You can deny permission and continue to use non-camera functions, including manual ingredient entry and journal features. If permission is permanently denied, you can change it later in device settings.
FlareLens is a general personal health-journaling tool and is not designed for unsupervised use by young children. A parent or guardian should supervise use by a minor and decide what information is entered or shared. Contact us if you believe a child has sent personal information through support so we can review the request.
FlareLens limits routine collection by keeping journal records on the device, uses the operating system’s app storage and permission controls, and uses HTTPS for active network services. No system is completely secure. Protect your device with a passcode and review the destination before sharing sensitive exports or summaries.
OCR, product-information, website-hosting, email and sharing providers may process information outside your country. Their processing locations and safeguards are governed by their own services and policies.
We may update this policy when FlareLens features, providers or legal requirements change. The revised policy will be posted at this URL with a new last-updated date. Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate public or in-app notice where required.
